Windows
A collection of shutters and windows from Europe, (mostly from the South of France and from Italy) and some from the South of the US, from Charleston SC.
There is something intriguing about looking upon an open window from the outside. Taking in how it is opened, listening to the voices that may be heard from the room, watching whether somebody is looking out or not... . Usually a window's primary function is to add light and air to a room. It allows the persons inside to see out... But the interesting part is when people decorate their windows, not from a vantage point of looking from the inside, but for the joy and benefit of the passers by, the people who look up unwittingly and see something functional as a window transformed into whimsy, a work of art, or a statement of identity as to who lives behind that window. I have long enjoyed the contrasts of decaying, centuries old structures, rocks, stones, stucco juxtaposed with lace, some new living plants, a few artful objects... So I am sharing my collection of what I have seen with you.
